Following our Winter break we returned to school on Tuesday the 3rd of January then we ended up being out of school both Wednesday and Thursday due to weather. The next week came along and we didn't have school Monday, went back Tuesday then were out again Wednesday and Thursday again. It has been a nasty winter -- some of those days were due to large amounts of snow followed by rain that turned everything to ice. Then when the temps get colder than -20 they have the kids stay home and we had a couple of those. It took us till the end of January to have a full week of school because of more crazy amounts of snow. Needless to say the kids have LOVED all of the extra days off. I may have loved them more if they all didn't come right after we had two full weeks of for the Holidays. It's gotten to the point where it was just too much and they are fighting more and wanting to go back to school. During the days off they've loved playing in all the snow we've accumulated, the play is usually followed up by Hot Cocoa!
When the temps get really cold we grow Ice inside all of our windows - It's one of those times I don't love this old house :)
LeGrand has plowed many hills around the house and the kids love all the piles to play on
These were the lowest temps I recorded in my car - It's crazy! So Bitter cold!
On one of their snow days they stayed home due to the temperatures it didn't get much about -10 all day, the kids were dying to go out so I allowed the 2 older ones to go after I bundled them up really well. The were out about an hour which surprised me they lasted that long. When the came back in Loa was complaining that her ear hurt, not inside but the outside. I asked her if she had kept her hat on and she said it had fallen off and she didn't put it back on. The ear was tomato red for a couple of days and she complained of it hurting bad...turns out she had gotten frost bite on that ear!
